Define Lyrics and Explanation # 1

As many of you know I'm not rapping any longer, but I am still making beats, writing, and just plain having fun with it all. So l ast night at work I came up with these lines/lyrics/quote that are below in bold and posted it up on my wall on Facebook. Fairly quickly I received a comment asking me to explain what it meant. I wrote a response, but it was way too long to post as a comment or status change. So I decided that I would add a little explanation of what it means to me, broken down to its very center.

‎"Don't believe everything you hear, don't believe everything that you read. Some people don't know what it all means, and some people get fucked for free." - Define

Thank you for asking. There are people, media, organizations, government officials, and more who will say and/or write things about another person, group, organization, etc. that aren't true, or half-truths, in order to hurt that other person(s), as just plain gossip, for revenge (real or not real, just or unjust), for self-serving political matters, or any other number of reasons. Some say things without questioning their beliefs and sources of "knowledge", only knowing (or THINKING they know) a lie, a half the truth or a different side or a different perspective, etc. and so they don't actually KNOW THE TRUTH. They don't have understanding and therefore they're ignorant. So in the end, the target of said subject gets fucked. Put into a corner where they have to just take it or fight against it, when they shouldn't have to because they didn't ask for it and its if not wholly at least partly a lie in the first place. Have I ever done this on any level in my lifetime? Yes, I'm guilty. But that was a long time ago. Today, I'm a different person. I think we all have at one point or another, innocently or not. Its up to us though to decide how we act today and in the future and to think about how our actions affect others. I hope that explained it for you.

The official site of Micheal "Eyedea" Larsen | In Memory of Micheal Larsen

For any of you who don't know, there is website dedicated to Micheal Larsen (Eyedea) which began running after his passing by his AWESOME mother Kathy. (Click on the green link below to go to micheallarsen.com.) I wanted to share this with all of you who are friends, fans, and even you who have no idea who I'm talking about. Micheal was a VERY good friend to me and I miss him and this website helps bring a smile to my face sometimes. Not too long ago I began to listen to his work again at peace. I couldn't even listen to his music for the longest time because it made me feel so damn sad, helpless, and I missed him so much. It sucked! I finally worked through that though and knew that Micheal would not want me to go through that, but he'd also tell me that I would have to do whatever was best for me. Some of you may be wondering what he was like as a person off of the stage. He was VERY caring, compassionate, intelligent, loving, understanding, loyal, funny, and honest. If you listen to his music, knew him, or only met him once, you know what I'm talking about. micheallarsen.com has a store consisting of Eyedea merchandise and Crushkill artists. In fact, I believe that it is partly the new Crushkill Records website as well because their site is not up anymore. It has news, event info, interviews, videos, music, external links, and some other cool stuff. It is a good site to be devoted to if you are an Eyedea and/or Crushkill fan and I guarantee through it over time you will find new artists and groups that you will also like that you wouldn't have otherwise found out about if not for micheallarsen.com. So check it out. I hope that you enjoy it. Come back and drop a comment and if you dig what I'm randomly and spontaneously doing with this blog, please subscribe to it. Until next time, thanks for reading and take care.

Hot Hot Heat - Bandages (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

For anyone who hasn't heard this song. I dig it. The video's pretty cool too. It's from another Canadian band called "Hot Hot Heat" that formed back in '99. And guess what label they WERE on when this song came out back in 2002 on their Make Up The Breakdown album? Yep! Sup Pop. That's pretty cool too. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Anticon. Records

Anticon is one of the favorite record labels! I've been into these guys for a long time now. For anyone who isn't familiar with Anticon, the first 2 albums I heard on the label were Deep Puddle Dynamics - "The Taste Of Rain...Why Kneel" (1999) and "Anticon Presents: Music For The Advancement Of Hip Hop" (1999). Anticon is still doing cool things, making good music, and staying true to it's artistic ways. I recommend checking out Alias (One of my favorite producers/beatmakers.) and Jel (another favorite.) if you're into instrumental work (Although their work isn't completely instrumental, for example, Alias's "Through The Looking Glass" features him rapping and reciting poetry on almost the entire album) or check out Sole (who actually left the label early last year) or DoseOne (part of Themselves, 13 & God, and Deep Puddle Dynamics) if you're into lyricism and word art. Click the red link below to check them out at their official website, which features music, podcasts, bios, and much more.
